360 Istanbul

Globe hopping and genre bending, the food at 360 Istanbul tries to take diners to places they've never been to, although the results sometimes fall flat. The location goes for the same effect, with more consistency: at the top of a historic building in the heart of the lively Beyoglu district, the sleek concrete and glass restaurant has lovely views in all directions.

Adem Baba

This is the Turkish version of a New England fish shack, with nets and crab traps hanging from the ceiling. They even serve a delicious, thick, fish stew that looks and tastes like clam chowder. Families and large groups come here to enjoy simple, fresh, and perfectly prepared fish, at a fraction of what they would pay at some of the fancier restaurants along the Bosphorus.

Iskele

On a restored historic ferry terminal on the Bosphorus, Iskele's romantic setting is more than matched by a fine range of seafood. Ask the waiter to recommend whatever is especially tasty that day. Eating in the restaurant, with its sliding glass doors that look out onto the Bosphorus, will make you feel like you're dining on the deck of a yacht. Phone ahead for a table by the window or, even better, outside on the terrace in warmer weather.

Mikla

Mikla opened its doors in 2006, but it's already made it into the upper echelon of Istanbul restaurants. The location certainly helps: it's on the top floor of the 18-story Marmara Pera hotel and has a stunning 360-degree view of Istanbul.
